Starting today
Delightfully Chic is going FULL ON Derby Mode!! Now to get a few things
straight! Do I follow horse racing throughout
the year? Um, No! Do I know anything
about these horses or the Jockeys that ride them? Not a clue!
Do I love, crazy ridiculous oversized hats, seersucker suits, and all
things fabulous?! ABSOLUTELY! Will I sip a perfectly mixed Mint Julep out
of a darling silver cup? Bottoms Up!
This year I was determined
to host a fabulous Derby party with my nearest and dearest friends, but, I made
the “responsible” decision (ugh how boring) to continue to focus my time and
energy towards decorating our home and put the soiree on hold until till next
year when we are more settled.
So, today Dchic is
starting the Kentucky Derby Takeover with nothing other than the mixology
behind the stylish and forever classic Mint Julep!
What You Will Need
2 ½ ounces Kentucky Bourbon
25–30 mint leaves
1 Ounce Simple Syrup
Ice Cubes and
Crushed Ice
Mint Simple Syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 large cluster of
mint leaves
Step 1
Combine the water and sugar together on your stovetop and bring
to a boil. Continuously, stir until the sugar has completely dissolved. Place
the cluster of mint leaves in a heatproof container and pour the syrup over the
leaves. Place the jar in the fridge and let the leaves steep for at least one
hour or more. Strain the leaves from the liquid and set the syrup aside.
Step2
Grab your shaker and place 25–30 mint leaves inside. Next, pour in 2.5 ounces of bourbon and ounce
of your simple syrup. Top with a few ice cubes and stir. Fill your silver cups
(don’t forget to chill first) with ice about halfway. Strain the liquid from
the cocktail shaker into the cup. Pack crushed iced on top of the liquid to
fill the glass. Garnish the drink with a sprig of mint leaves and a fun paper straw.
Tada!
Now, cheers your friends and place your bets!
