It's a Derby Takeover {Mint Julep Mixology}

Starting today Delightfully Chic is going FULL ON Derby Mode!! Now to get a few things straight!  Do I follow horse racing throughout the year? Um, No!  Do I know anything about these horses or the Jockeys that ride them?  Not a clue!  Do I love, crazy ridiculous oversized hats, seersucker suits, and all things fabulous?!  ABSOLUTELY!  Will I sip a perfectly mixed Mint Julep out of a darling silver cup?  Bottoms Up!

This year I was determined to host a fabulous Derby party with my nearest and dearest friends, but, I made the “responsible” decision (ugh how boring) to continue to focus my time and energy towards decorating our home and put the soiree on hold until till next year when we are more settled.

So, today Dchic is starting the Kentucky Derby Takeover with nothing other than the mixology behind the stylish and forever classic Mint Julep!

 What You Will Need
 2 ½  ounces Kentucky Bourbon
25–30 mint leaves

1 Ounce Simple Syrup

Ice Cubes and Crushed Ice

Mint Simple Syrup

    1/2 cup sugar

    1/2 cup water

1 large cluster of mint leaves

Step 1
Combine the water and sugar together on your stovetop and bring to a boil. Continuously, stir until the sugar has completely dissolved. Place the cluster of mint leaves in a heatproof container and pour the syrup over the leaves. Place the jar in the fridge and let the leaves steep for at least one hour or more. Strain the leaves from the liquid and set the syrup aside.

Step2
Grab your shaker and place 25–30 mint leaves inside.  Next, pour in 2.5 ounces of bourbon and ounce of your simple syrup. Top with a few ice cubes and stir. Fill your silver cups (don’t forget to chill first) with ice about halfway. Strain the liquid from the cocktail shaker into the cup. Pack crushed iced on top of the liquid to fill the glass. Garnish the drink with a sprig of mint leaves and a fun paper straw.

Tada!
Now, cheers your friends and place your bets!

Living Room Inspiration with Powder Pink and Blue Dreams

The inspiration behind our formal living room comes from my parents home that I was raised in.
They had the most gorgeous living room. It was all white with gold oriental details that absolutely amazed me. Our living room is coming together piece by piece and I was so tickled a few weeks back when my best friend Katie was in town and said "wow, your living room totally reminds me of your parents living room".
SCORE! I'm on the right track!

You might remember this shot of a side table I restored that my mama gave to me and it now sits proudly in our  formal living room.

You can see this DIY post here if you missed it!

With all that said, here are two rooms that have been floating around on our beloved Pinterest that
continually catch my eye.  I have zero intentions of moving away from my original inspiration of my amazing parents space but, if I ever feel the need to mix things up, I will be dashing out to pick up all things powder pink and blue, and gold of course.

 Totally gorgeous right?!

Here are some pieces that I pulled together for inspiration
that I would incorporate in my space if I ever get the wild hair to switch things up.

2. One Kings Lane Rochelle Lamp
4. !ndigo Gold Spike Pod (I actually picked up this prickly goodness last week...so fun)

Glamour France {Alba Obsession}

The ever gorgeous Jessica Alba is gracing the cover of the Glamour-France August 2013 issue with one insanely flirty-fun spread inside.

The August cover of the glossy takes me back to my early teen years when I would not so patiently wait by the mailbox for my YM and Seventeen mag subscriptions to arrive!

Doesn't this cover remind you of Seventeen covers back in the early 90's?!
LOVE!

Seriously??
Edgy, playful, flirty, fun...all a recipe for perfection!
This shot totally makes me want to pick up a long board to "tote" around with me in every attempt to look THIS bad a$$.  No doubt, my version would be a fail and more of a sweaty hotmess after a block but, who cares?! haha

One word... OBSESSED!!
I like can't even take the amazingness!

Ms. Alba you have outdone yourself!!
Cheers to you darling!
