Fashion Fix Friday {Gingham}

Today marks the last day of New York Fashion Week and the collections for Fall 2015
 are but of course, nothing short of AMAZING!  I will spill all the deets on this amazing week soon but, before I can even go to fall we must back it up to spring! As if I were not already lusting for spring, now I am completely obsessed with the season more than ever (old man winter go away already) and dying to pull out a new spring wardrobe.  Some trends that were found on the spring runways ranged from fringe, suede, bohemian glam, trouser suits, and GINGHAM!

As a southern girl, I am super excited to see gingham back in the spotlight.
Elle Magazine has even stamped the pattern as the print of spring 2015!!

Here are few looks straight from the catwalk and few of my favorite street styled outfits.

So, are you ready to swipe your mama’s table cloth and
repurpose into something tres chic for spring?!

Must Haves {Winter Survival}

A high of 18, and a low of 3, with a windchill factor of ZERO?!
North Carolina weather has officially gone nutso!
Once I arrived at home last night after driving through a "snow-burst"
 I felt myself shift into lazy mode.  Does anybody else feel like their total body shuts
down when the temps take a ride to burrsville?
As I lounged in my over-sized hoodie, today's post hit me like a snowball to the face.

It is beyond most necessary to share a few of my go-to items for Winter survival.
It's all about keeping you cabin fabulous without the fever!

Every morning and night I lather my hands with this goodness
There is absolutely nothing better than taking a hot bubble bath and
then slipping into cozy over-sized warmth
I switched to Estee Lauder products a few months back and to say I'm
a fan would be a total understatement
Just try, your lips will love you for it!
There will be no Risky Business sliding in these socks but
your little tootsies will be so warm
 Might I suggest going heavy on the vodka and marshmallows
Once you part from your favorite glossy mag, curl up with books full of glamour and style

What are your go to items while surviving the low temps?!

For the Love of Cooking {Heart Shaped Cinnamon Rolls}

Last Saturday Scott and I celebrated our first Valentine's as Mr. & Mrs.
For the special occasion I decided to whip up a batch of heart shaped cinnamon rolls.

I do not for one second proclaim myself a baker but, I will say these sweet little treats turned out
just as planned and the hubs even asked  for seconds on Sunday morning.

Heart Shaped Cinnamon Rolls
 (Yields 12 rolls)
{Dough}
 1 cup milk
1- .25 ounce packages of dry active yeast
 (you will not need rapid rising)
1/6 cup vegetable oil
1/2 Tbs baking powder
1/4 cup warm water
1/6 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 egg
 (To measure a 1/2 egg: scramble in a ramekin and pour out half of the egg)
3 1/2 cups flour
 Heat milk in a small saucepan until it bubbles,
stirring frequently so it doesn’t burn and stick.
Remove from heat and let cool until it’s lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast into 1/4 cup of warm water and let stand for 10 minutes, or until creamy.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the dough hook, combine yeast mixture,
warm milk, sugar, oil, baking powder, salt, egg and 2 cups of flour. Mix until the dough is smooth.
SLOWLY add (I added a little too fast and I feared for my mixers life) remaining flour
and mix until well combined. Knead the dough on low speed for 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place dough in lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let sit for 1-2 hours in a dry, warm place.

Once the dough has doubled in size (around 1-2 hours),
punch dough and place on a lightly floured surface.
Ok, so I went a little overboard on the flour part but,
I was having fun!

   Roll out into your best rectangle, about 12-13 inches in length.

 {Filling}
2 Tbs butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp cinnamon

Combine the filling ingredients.

 Using an off-set spatula, apply butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

 Grease two 9-inch pans with butter and set aside.

To roll the dough, roll in each long side towards the middle.

Cut the log into twelve 1-inch rolls.
Pinch the bottom of each roll to make the bottom point of the heart.
Place six rolls in each pan, spaced slightly apart.

Cover and refrigerate overnight, for at least 12 hours.

The next day, take rolls out of the refrigerator and
 let sit at room temperature for 30-45 minutes.
 While rolls are resting, preheat your oven to 350F.

Once I popped the rolls into the oven I began my icing.

{Icing}
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 1/2 cup powdered sugar
4 Tbs milk

Mix  the icing ingredients in a bowl with an electric mixer.

Bake cinnamon rolls uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
I baked ours for 25 minutes but, next time I will probably pull them at 20 mins so
they are a little more gooey!

Ice your pretties while they are still warm.
For photo purposes I snapped the finished product prior to icing.

I think it's safe to say Valentine's as
The Gaither's was a complete success!

Snow Day & Spring Daydreams

Last night started our first official snow storm of the winter for North Carolina.
We woke up to about 2 inches of snow covered with lots of slippery ice.
I know, I know, most would NOT call this a snow storm but hey,
we are in the south, and even a flake of snow clears the bread and milk
shelves around these parts!

After snoozing for an extra hour this morning the husband and I lounged
for a while then bundled up to walk the neighborhood to "survey" the roads.
Next, a Starbucks run and our usual weekly trip to Lowes

To warm up a little we decided to head to the garden section
and start gathering a touch of inspiration for spring.
My wheels have been turning ever since.

Here are a few pieces I'd love to find on our screened-porch this spring.

Have you started your brainstorming yet for spring?
What looks have you crushin?!

The Color of Love {Red}

In honor of Valentines and in keeping with my theme of love this week,
I figured today we could use a little motivation to get us pumped up
for the big day with pops of red!

 Give me tufted any day!

For all my Fixer Upper fans out there,

Are we all dying to take a trip to Round Top after this episode?!

 This bedroom makes me think of my sweet mama, the only thing
