It's a Derby Takeover {Mint Julep Mixology}

Starting today Delightfully Chic is going FULL ON Derby Mode!! Now to get a few things straight!  Do I follow horse racing throughout the year? Um, No!  Do I know anything about these horses or the Jockeys that ride them?  Not a clue!  Do I love, crazy ridiculous oversized hats, seersucker suits, and all things fabulous?!  ABSOLUTELY!  Will I sip a perfectly mixed Mint Julep out of a darling silver cup?  Bottoms Up!

This year I was determined to host a fabulous Derby party with my nearest and dearest friends, but, I made the “responsible” decision (ugh how boring) to continue to focus my time and energy towards decorating our home and put the soiree on hold until till next year when we are more settled.

So, today Dchic is starting the Kentucky Derby Takeover with nothing other than the mixology behind the stylish and forever classic Mint Julep!

 What You Will Need
 2 ½  ounces Kentucky Bourbon
25–30 mint leaves

1 Ounce Simple Syrup

Ice Cubes and Crushed Ice

Mint Simple Syrup

    1/2 cup sugar

    1/2 cup water

    1 large cluster of mint leaves

Step 1
Combine the water and sugar together on your stovetop and bring to a boil. Continuously, stir until the sugar has completely dissolved. Place the cluster of mint leaves in a heatproof container and pour the syrup over the leaves. Place the jar in the fridge and let the leaves steep for at least one hour or more. Strain the leaves from the liquid and set the syrup aside.

Step2
Grab your shaker and place 25–30 mint leaves inside.  Next, pour in 2.5 ounces of bourbon and ounce of your simple syrup. Top with a few ice cubes and stir. Fill your silver cups (don’t forget to chill first) with ice about halfway. Strain the liquid from the cocktail shaker into the cup. Pack crushed iced on top of the liquid to fill the glass. Garnish the drink with a sprig of mint leaves and a fun paper straw.

Tada!
Now, cheers your friends and place your bets!

Delightfully Chic {Office Inspiration}

 As you know there have been TONS of decorating projects going on in the Gaither house since we moved in back in November.  One room I keep putting off, but, absolutely cannot wait to see completed is my Delightfully Chic office.  I decided to keep my desk and chair from my previous office in my town-home because I still adore them so much.
When I brainstorm the new look of DChic I keep seeing soft tones of pink and coral with a
mix of grey and of course, white!

Here’s where I am currently at in the planning process...

Offices/Images that inspire me...

These silk drapes...I die!

Clean & Simple, my favorite combo!

What are your thoughts on the new color scheme?!
Love it? Hate it?!

Quote of the Week {Our Busy but Successful Weekend}

Happy Monday!

It was another whirlwind of a weekend but, we got lots accomplished!  Friday, Scott and I took the afternoon to just have some quality time together.  We worked in the yard, then we decided to do a little shopping and head to my hometown of Mebane (ok, so it’s only like 20 mins down the road) but, I was craving Martinho’s and we never get downtown anymore.   After that, back home to relax on the patio then umm…who wants to eat again?  Dinner Date night and meet up with sweet friends to catch up. Saturday it was off to the Angel’s Among Us Walk for Brain Tumor awareness!  This was our family’s 20th YEAR participating!! Then more shopping!
You know those nightstands I’ve been hunting? FOUND ‘EM!  (post to come), also picked up a few other items to complete a few projects around this house!  Can’t wait to share everything!
Sunday, it was time for church and family time and…MORE SHOPPING!
I am so grateful for a husband that loves hitting all the stores as much as I do!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend (despite the weather…it was rainy here) and got LOTS accomplished and soaked up tons of QT with those you love!

Here are few pics I snapped on Friday when we were out in the yard...
I just adore spring!

Fashion Fix Friday {Culottes...They're Back}

Ready or not, Culottes are back and making a huge appearance in spring 2015!
My husband absolutely despises anything capri length let alone “baggy” (aka my boyfriend jeans) so they will definitely NOT be a hit with him and I would venture to guess that many others are not a fan.  However, culottes done RIGHT I think can be very chic and hello, pick up the right pair and you have your newest pants of comfy perfection!

Here is a roundup of ladies rocking culottes
in a fresh and spunky new way.

My personal fave!

So are you a fan?
Do you plan on rocking these bad boys?!
